  1. I am new to canning, although I helped my mom for a number of years. I have a waterbath and am comfortable using it. I have had a pressure cooker, for foods, but not a pressure canner. Our current rental has a ceramic cooktop on the stove. Will that work for a pressure canner, or would I need to get a portable cooking element to use for the canner? I have heard that I should not use one on a ceramic top before and want to know for certain. Thanks for the help. Jan Merryfield. Cabot, AR
